Young Rider and Trafalgar Square Books are bringing you the first-ever Young Rider fiction contest! Read on for how to enter.
For the last few years, one theme has emerged from the Dear YR letters: You want to have a fiction/writing contest. Well, the moment has finally arrived!
We know you’ve been practicing your writing and plot lines just for fun, because that’s what horse-crazy kids (like we used to be) do anyway. Now is your chance to see if your best story idea will rise to the top so you can win some awesome prizes.
So capture your ideas and you just may get published! Read on to find out more.
Contest Rules
Write an original story that somehow involves a horse or other equines. The story must be 700-1,100 words, FICTIONAL, and it must be created by YOU (no AI or parent-generated submissions, please … we have our ways of being able to tell).
Some examples of horsey fiction:
◆ Includes characters who are horses & horse people
◆ Adventures you hope to have with horses one day
◆ What life is like for your horse & his horse friends
Submitted stories will be judged in two divisions:
◆ 7 to 11 years old at time of entry
◆ 12 to 16 years old at time of entry
How to Enter
Email contest@trafalgarbooks.com using the subject line “YR Fiction Contest.”
Please include your full name, age, address, and a parent’s name, email and phone number on both your email and your story document (.doc or .docx Word documents strongly preferred).
Apologies that we cannot accept “snail mail” entries at this time.
Deadline
Stories must be received at contest@trafalgarbooks.com by midnight Eastern time on April 1, 2024 (this deadline is no April Fool’s joke!). Receipt of your story will be confirmed by email.
Judging
